Zodiac Quilt – Capricorn

This gallery contains 5 photos.

I wanted to make a one block quilt using the Quilt-As-You-Go method to include lots of different quilting patterns. When Leah Day opened her ‘Quilty Box’ (October 2015), it spurred me on to use this block for my project. Although … Continue reading

Big Boys Toys …

Those of us who make quilts know that quilts are made for touching… except when on display at major quilt exhibits. There are always signs telling you not to touch, even though those tactile creations of colour, texture, light and shade, are just calling out to be stroked and cuddled.

Well it seems that it’s not just quilts that present this dichotomy, so too do some ‘big boys toys’!

There must be ‘Quilt Police’ lurking nearby!

At the recent “RACV Classic Showcase’ held at the Flemington Racecourse, those ‘Don’t Touch’ signs popped up too. The showcase included the Annual Concours for both The Mercedes benz Club and The MG Club, along with many other classic English and European vehicles.

These sample photos are for the ‘big boy’ in your life to admire, just as we admire quilts.

A Patch of Dreams

It’s fascinating and fabulous what patchworkers choose as their palette when interpreting their own version of a pattern. When teaching ‘A Patch of Dreams’ table runner as a class at PU, individual colour preferences made each product unique.

Heather's 'Patch of Dreams'

Heather’s vibrant flames come from her amazing stash!

Dianne's 'Patch of Dreams'

Dianne’s ‘all things Paris’ fabric, is soft and calming.

Karin's 'Patch of Dreams'

Karin intends extending this into two panels for a single bed quilt.

Tracey's 'Patch of Dreams'

Tracey will add borders to her double pattern and use it for a wall hanging.

… and the original pattern before quilting.

Beautiful Begonias

Recently on a trip to visit M-in-L in Ballarat, had us viewing the Begonias in full bloom. Ballarat holds an annual Begonia Festival and this year’s flowers were amazing.

The display was breath-taking …

The colours were glorious, and if you ever get the chance, drop into the Ballarat Begonia Festival in March each year, or during April – the flowers last so well.

I wonder what patchwork quilts could come from these vibrant bright colours …..
